After you hire your caregiver you will still have work to do! You will need someone to train the caregiver to the specifics of the client and household. This is the time to set the standard. Don’t be afraid to be specific. Give details. Provide a written list of daily responsibilities. Allow the first week for basic training. After that remember that you are the employer. Anything not done to your standard of excellence is not done right. Retrain and be clear about your expectations.

Remember that caregivers want to give excellent care. Remember to praise and commend them for their care. Your home can be a happy workplace for your caregiver, and be a place of joy for yourself or your client.

So, final thought. Continue to make it work. If it doesn’t for some reason, or your caregiver resigns, or your client’s needs change, return to step 1. You can be a manager of private care in your home.

If for some reason, you want help in the above steps, Caregiver HR recommends “Private Caregiver”. They do the above steps for you.

At this juncture of the selection process, you are ready to set an interview in your client’s living environment to confirm to you and the client that you have made a good match.

At this point the potential caregiver will also be “interviewing” you. A match “made in heaven” is what is best for both the client and the caregiver. If anyone is hesitant at this point about the working relationship there should be honest conversation about these areas with resolution in mind.

If you decide to offer employment to your selected caregiver, you must agree upon temporary or permanent help, salary or wage per hour, who will pay taxes, and will employment be contract or non-contract. You will need to agree on schedule and activities they are to perform. You will need to determine how the caregiver’s time will be recorded and kept.
The post Making the Selection appeared first on Caregiver Jobs, Senior Care Jobs | CaregiverHR.

The Preliminary Choice allows you face to face contact with your potential caregiver. You may choose to meet in a neutral location for this interview. Caregiver HR does not recommend these interviews in your home at this point in the process unless necessary.

Observe your potential caregiver for promptness, dress, and conversation. Ask specific questions that will help you further decide if they are a good match for yourself or the client. See our website for possible questions that will help define personality and values.

You need to have some objective system to compare your potential caregivers. Again, our website offers a possible checklist for this interview.

After completing your preliminary interview, spend time going over data. Discuss with the client, and the client’s family if possible. If you are the client ask for input from a friend or someone who knows you best.

Make a selection of your best choice and your next best choice. You are now ready for the final interview.
The post Making the Preliminary Choice appeared first on Caregiver Jobs, Senior Care Jobs | CaregiverHR.

Up until this point you have been reviewing applicants with an objective mindset. On this review you will need to be somewhat intuitive and introspective. To have a caregiver that will be successful in serving you, you must consider the type of personality of which you are the most comfortable. Personality isn’t the primary criteria for choosing a successful caregiver, but for long term success and happiness it is certainly beneficial.

Read the caregiver profile again looking for personality and interests of your possible caregiver. Email them and ask them questions. Or, better yet, set up a phone interview.

During the phone interview confirm the findings from above and get further questions answered about driving proximity to your home, hours of availability, skills, special considerations such as pets, or wanting a non-smoker. Ask about any special training or experience that prepares them to meet your needs.

You may want to narrow your choices again at this point in the process. But at this point Caregiver HR recommends that you have no more potential caregivers than two or three.
The post Making the Personality Choice appeared first on Caregiver Jobs, Senior Care Jobs | CaregiverHR.

Now that you have you have your caregiver applicants, you must make the decision to make safety a priority! There are many parts of safety in regard to a caregiver. First, and foremost, you want to hire someone with an excellent background. Preferably, several areas of background should be checked. Caregiver HR has provided a convenient way for you, the customer, to acquire this information before you begin your interviewing process.

Many caregivers will already have their background check completed and on file for you, while others will provide the background check upon request. You can see this on the caregiver profile. Even if the background check is already on file, you, the possible employer, must request permission from the caregiver to view the caregiver’s background check. If it is not on file yet, you may still request that the caregiver provide you with a background check to view. The caregiver always has to give permission to you to view this background check, not Caregiver HR.

Caregiver HR has chosen a provider who completes the national background checks for our applicants. You can read on our website about the check we have chosen to reccommend and why. It was chosen to provide you with the best check possible to ensure your safety.

Our recommendation is that you choose a caregiver who has no negative findings. However, you must determine your standard for this safety item. Use the background results to further narrow your choices toward your selection of a caregiver.

The next step in safety is to check references for you applicants. Caregivers have the option of providing written references on our website or to provide you emails or phone numbers of people for which they have worked. On the caregiver profile you can see if written references are on file or if they will be provided upon request.

Caregiver HR recommends you review any written references looking for things the caregiver has done for clients with similar needs as you. Then, request other references that you can contact on your own by phone or email. You must feel that the caregiver has completed successful work with clients who have similar needs as your own.

At this point, you can say you have your potential caregiver in site!
The post Making Safety a Priority appeared first on Caregiver Jobs, Senior Care Jobs | CaregiverHR.

Now that you have made the decision to hire a private caregiver, you must are ready to begin your search! The first step is choosing a caregiver for your zip code. You can select the distance the caregiver lives from your zip. Although many caregivers are willing to drive longer distances from their home to their caregiver, Caregiver HR recommends that you choose a caregiver within 10 miles of your home. Further distances seem to create traffic problems and may interfere with promptness. This could become an issue to deal with that is not needed. So, to begin, choose the caregiver that lives in close proximity to your home. Review these applicants for the following things: availability that matches your needs, types of activities they are qualified to do for you, and special considerations such as pets, smoking, or special training that may be needed to service you.

After these selections are made you have the applicants that need your review.
The post Making Your Initial Choice appeared first on Caregiver Jobs, Senior Care Jobs | CaregiverHR.
